The VMA's Evolution of FASHION ICONS

The VMA’s are a haven for `fashionable celebrities, aspiring artists, but most of all FASHION ICONS!

The 2009 VMA’s were held at the famous Radio City Music Hall in one of the most inspiring fashionable cities in the world New York City! I must say “hands down” the most inspired highlight of the evening was the trendsetting “Ms. Jackson if you’re nasty” Janet Jackson. She opened the show with innovative style and grace. Sporting a white and black leather ensemble with silver studding. She gave an outstanding tribute to her late brother Michael J. Jackson. She ripped the stage with her solo …well not so solo duet to “SCREAM" with her brother playing via video in the background,

The tribute was not only about the music of MJ, but the iconic fashion of MJ shown to us over the years. The dancers wore everything from the infamous red leather from “BEAT IT” to the open shirt look with t-shirt from “IN THE CLOSET”. Over the years MJ set himself apart from millions by his gracious presence and his style!! He didn’t seem to mind EXPRESSING himself creatively in every way possible. I mean really……who didn’t moon walk across the floor a few times with their one glove on? Sheesh I still wear my one glove when I want to add a bit of edge to an outfit! And although we didn’t always understand the why’s of his fashion choices we were inspired by something without a doubt! He wasn’t just a TRENDSETTER he was a fashion icon!

Now lets back track for a minute….How fitting was it for one of the most innovative Icons of all time to introduce another? Who other than the risk taking and fabulous Madonna. She was dressed in all black with a leather structured close fitted jacket with zipper detail. Let’s take a look at her evolution over the years!


Oh and we can’t forget about our young and beautiful, icon, on every level Ms Beyonce Knowles or “Ms. Carter”. She has given show-stopping performances and trendsetting innovative style at its best! Always chic and other times funky and edgy too! Let’s take a peek at the Bey evolution!



Fashion Icons evolve their looks just like fashion evolves and is reinvented time and time again. But True FASHION ICONS are TRENDSETTERS! “They don’t follow trends they set trends…”! Until next time….
